Only One Thing is Needful

Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a
certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him
        into her house.
And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus'
        feet, and heard his word.
But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him,
and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me
to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art
careful and troubled about many things:
But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part,
which shall not be taken away from her.  (Luke 10:38-42)

When the meaning of life slips from our memory and we feel like we are living only to
earn money to survive it is a sure sign that we have forgotten what is truely important:
obeying and serving God.

Many times Jesus taught what is truely important:

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;
and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)

The most important thing in life is to learn the will of God and to obey it. This is what
we are here to do:

Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he
hath sent. (John 6:28-29)

Jesus taught the will of God and like Martha we are to listen to Him, believe Him and obey Him.
Everything else is vanity. Our body is a temple to worship the Father. Using it to do
anything against His will defiles our temple and separates us from God. If we are faithful to
His commandments we will be filled with the glory of God, just like the tabernacle of the

And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode
thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. (Exodus 40:35)
